Why A Great Company Culture Comes Down to Trust

Chances are you’ve worked at a company where your schedule was rigid, or maybe it was tough to hop out for a dentist appointment, or perhaps the pace was a little stagnant.

We work in a fast-paced environment. We are flexible with our work schedules. We even offer Summer Fridays.

There is one thing that allows us to offer our employees a great culture. It all comes down to trust.

Trust is a Two-Way Street

On the company side, we trust that the great people we hire will give it their all, plus more, to ensure success for all of us.

In our incredibly fast-paced environment, everyone wears multiple hats and switches gears frequently. Most people find that type of environment challenging and exciting and grow as a result.

On the employee side, our people can trust us to care and protect our nurturing culture. ebbo understands that its employees have a life outside of their jobs and we do what we can to help employees strike a healthy balance.

We also keep a close eye on trends that candidates and employees expect from a top employer. Some of those expectations include flexibility in schedule and a work-from-home policy.

And we’re happy to offer those perks because we trust our employees.

How we Make a Flexible Work Schedule Work

First, we offer a flexible work schedule. Although our core hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., we tell employees that they can discuss an alternative work schedule with their managers.

We currently have many employees working outside of those hours and the feedback we receive has been positive and appreciative.

Whether employees have family obligations or a second job, we do what it takes to make it work for them. We hear positive feedback from employees frequently about how “ebbo just gets it.”

It’s as simple as that.

Work From Home Policy

Along the same lines, ebbo offers a work-from-home policy that has two components.

The first is the one-off day that an employee might require.

We all know about those impossible five-hour windows your plumber gives you or the 2 p.m. doctor’s appointment that makes it unrealistic to commute to work.

A simple solution is working from home for that day.

The other component requires that an employee in good standing, and who has been employed with ebbo for a certain period of time, can be eligible to apply to work from home and have that be part of their permanent schedule.

ebbo instills trust in its employees and knows that they are working just as hard from home as they would be in the office. We also provide video capability in every meeting room so that remote employees still feel like they are part of any meeting they have.

TGISF: Summer Fridays

One of those most popular benefits at ebbo is Summer Fridays, which are actually year-round. This benefit allows employees to kick-start their weekends and leave work at 2 p.m. on Fridays.

Again, trust comes into play because we’re entrusting that work is complete or in good shape before they leave. This has been a successful program for years and trust allows this to be appreciated by all.

It All Comes Back To Our Culture

Many companies tout a great culture but underestimate the power of trust both from employees and employers. At ebbo, trust is one of the key pillars of our company culture.

It’s that mutual trust that makes a work culture great and sustainable.

There are no offices at ebbo, and we have an open office layout. Everyone is treated equally and our employees sense and embrace this positive environment.

Kristin Granata is our Senior Manager, People Operations. She has over 10 years of experience in the People Ops/HR field. She has always had a passion for working with people and helping them in any way when she can. Kristin also teaches dance part-time and manages the competitive team for her Mom’s dance studio. When she isn’t working, Kristin enjoys spending time with her family and friends along with low-key nights at home with her husband and son Eric (and, of course, her cat Luna).
