At ebbo™, we believe that giving back to our community is more than just a gesture — it’s a way of life. That’s why this past August, we teamed up for a third time with one of our favorite organizations, Habitat for Humanity of North Central CT.
They say that the third time’s the charm, and that day was no exception. With beautiful late-summer weather on our side, the ebbo™ team showed up excited to spend a day outdoors, and motivated to make a big difference to local families in need.
Our team of 14 split up to work at two new home sites in the north end of Hartford. At the first site, a duplex, our team worked hard building the basement, with each member contributing to different aspects of the construction process.
Some were busy constructing walls to divide the basement into two distinct units. Others put their woodworking skills to the test by cutting wood to fashion stringers — crucial supports for the basement stairs.
Meanwhile, about a block away, team two kept busy assembling foundation forms for concrete and installing basement window frames for a single-family home. On both worksites, it was clear the sentiment was the same — our actions were driven by a shared commitment to make a tangible difference, no matter how large or small the task.
Right around noon, our teams reunited for a much-needed lunch break in the shade. It was more than just a break — it was an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company, share our accomplishments and marvel at the difference we can have when we work together. While we recharged, we were joined by one of Habitat’s directors, who gave us insight into the organization’s mission and the impact it has on our community.
After lunch, we cleaned up, packed up the supplies, loaded the trucks and called it quits for the day, grateful for our newfound skills. The team at Habitat is always kind, patient and informative and we appreciate the multitude of benefits we get when we volunteer.
Afterward, the ebbo™ team expressed a sense of pride not only for helping others but for the handy knowledge learned that day and the chance to collaborate differently with coworkers outside of the office environment. When it comes to partnering with Habitat, it’s always a win-win for all parties involved.
