Throughout the month of April our ERG sponsored volunteer days at the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in 1974 and RMHC provides 1.5 million overnight stays each year, helping families save more than $500 million in lodging and meals.
We had 5 ebbo teams from our CT and AZ locations participate in the charity’s meal service program. RMHC, located near top children’s hospitals throughout the U.S. and beyond, allows parents who are far from home to stay close to their hospitalized child and benefit from the comforts of “home” environment during a very stressful time, all without incurring expensive hotel and food costs.
Our teams showcased their culinary skills and collaborated to make meals that served 20-30 people each day. The dinners that were prepared ranged from ziti and meatballs to authentic chicken and rice bowls with julienned vegetables, plus homemade cookies.
All the meals were a huge hit!
Our team members found it gratifying to build camaraderie while helping those in need as well as enjoying time out of the office. We also received many thanks from the RMHC. The families truly enjoyed their meals and were so grateful not to worry about getting their next meal.
One of the goals of our ERG is to support our communities and lift up oppressed and marginalized groups (especially youth) by expanding awareness of and creating access to new opportunities. This was the second year that we have participated with RMHC and, based on all the positive feedback, we will look to partner with them again in the future.
